Artist Music Journals: Daniel Higgs

03.02.2010, 18.24

AMJ is produced by our pals at Soundscreen. These are gorgeous books of art by musicians, slipcased in an elegant consistent design. All are limited to 1000 copies and are quite awesome. The Artist Music Journal series is highly recommended.

About this book:
Daniel Higgs is a musician and artist from Baltimore, Maryland, who has been a contributor to the independent art and music community for nearly 3 decades. His artistic work ranges from musical records to books of poetry to visual collections of his drawing, painting and collage work.
Higgs is known primarily for his work as the sole lyricist and frontman of the band Lungfish, a four-piece juggernaut who has released over 10 full lengths in their 20+ year career. In recent years, Higgs has released a number of solo outings including the record / book combination Atomic Yggdrasil Tarot. On much of his solo work, Higgs uses very varied instrumentation, including acoustic and electric guitar, upright pianos, banjo and Jews harp, and generally records entirely at home on cassette recorder.
Higgs has always worked in the mediums of music and art simultaneously, and for his Artist Music Journal Higgs mined his archives and notebooks from the past 10+ years. The original works were photographed to scale.

A VIDEO VIEW OF HUSKY RESCUE

01.02.2010, 11.29

This flick represents KASINO CREATIVE STUDIO’S view of the band’s cinematic electronic folk. Severe reverse moves create a seriously off-kilter atmosphere. Once again, Kasino collaborated with marvellous motion designer JAMES MARTIN.

KIM ‘PROG CAST’ MODCAST

28.01.2010, 11.13

It’s a well known fact that the best things in life come in two parts. Take this week’s Modcast for example, put together by the one and only Kim Moyes (aka KIM/Kim from the Presets) who has provided us with a whopping two week’s work of musical ear candy.  This first installment, the ambient ‘Prog cast’ is an ode to synthesisers, prog and all things chill. Stay tuned in coming weeks for the ‘Clubby’ mix.

You can DOWNLOAD the Modcast directly from Modular People.
