The idea is simple: go to 1 place, ask 50 people 1 question, film their answers and get a glimpse of how marvelous life is. “Fifty People, One Question” is a wondeful video project I just discovered. It is about us, our lifes, our wishes, dreams and fears. It is about getting to know people without really knowing them, it is about feeling for and with each other.
It is beautiful. The editing is amazing, the music grabs your heart. I fell in love with the individuals in the clips, with their honesty. This just made my day!
What I love most about it is the fact, that there is always something to discover. I’m a car girl, I mostly drive through the city. I have a bike now, so sometimes, if the weather is nice I’ll ride that. But I just realized that in Berlin you still “find” areas that you’ve passed a million times but once you WALK through them it’s a whole different story. You don’t even have to drive all the out there, mostly it’s right in front of our nose.
I took a stroll through the Mitte/Kreuzberg area right behind Spittelmarkt the other day and booooy, Berlin suprises me over and over again. That area is not so”kiezig” as we’d say. In a way, it’s empty. The wall used to go through that part of the city and you still feel the notion of it having been a somewhat deserted area for years. You have tons of industrial buildings that are being reconstructed, old impressive houses and then unexpectedly fallow land. It’s amazing. And this September has been just beautiful!
It’s amazing, but right now everything is good. My parents are healthy, my sister’s about to make me an auntie, my brothers are both with me, one of my best friends is about to marry the love of her life, I’ll soon have my Nati back, Ruthi is happy with her job, Ms. Slick is about to make me a godmother, the girls are all doing their thang, the ones I thought I had lost I will never lose, I have plenty of work, I eat, I’m free, the sun is shining, I feel blessed. This would be the perfect time to say: “Thank you, dear universe!”
My Chinese brother from another mother Yue and his “mignon”, lovely Sophie, are in Berlin to do the window at Wood Wood together with Yoske! I met Yue on our trip to Paris two weeks ago and we clicked immidiately. It’s rare that you meet someone who is so genuinely nice as my favorite frenchy-chinese couple and as far as Yue is concerned: Beijing has never given us more swaager in one single person. The guy can dance!!! Dude’s got some moves!!! After not being able to spend as much time as I had wanted to during the week, we finally got to hang out on Friday and Saturday. We had coffee in the afternoon, went to Spindler & Klatt for drinks and ended up at Bar 25. Today we did some store checking with Phillo. Always with us: Sabrina aka Ducky
!
Yue, Sophie and Sabrina
Yue and me were cracking up, when we saw each other yesterday: similar shirt, almost identical khaki shorts. We thought it was funny!
Yes, I’ve just had it! What does a perfect weekend consist of? Lovely weather, good company and many things to do without really having to do anything. After going out on Friday, I was up quite early on Saturday, met up with my girl Romes for lunch, went shopping a bit and grabbed some coffee, before actually hitting the opening of the UNDPLUS Urban Gallery Store on Torstr. 68 in Mitte.
Throwing up gang signs: Bee, Feride, Marlon, Karin, me, Kathi and Gonca @ UNDPLUS (we felt like true thugs)
What a beauty. I fell in love with her!
In the evening, Romes and me went to see an old friend of mine perform. Laura Lopez Castro y Don Philippe played at the A-Trane in Charlottenburg. And what a show it was…. I’ve been knowing Laura for years. I think, we must have been like 8 or 9 when we first met. I remember seeing her dance Flamenco in a group with other girls and to me, even back then, she was always outstanding. Not because she is and has always been exceptionally beautiful, but also because I always felt, like she seemed to really love what she was doing. Years later we bumped into each other in Berlin, she told me about the record deal she had landed and that she was singing in Spanish and that I had to come to one of her concerts. For whatever reason I never made it – until Saturday night. It was wonderful. I had heard her music before, of course. But to see her on stage, was just amazing. I don’t speak or understand Spanish that good, but really? I didn’t have to. First of all, Laura explains just perfectly what her songs are about, but even if she didn’t, you’d get the picture: she sings about love, pain, luck, happiness, sadness, tears, heartache and loss. Her stories are painfully beautiful, her voice is warm, fragile and strong all at the same time and her songs are so full of feelings that you could just drown in them. I was in tears a couple of times during that concert. It was just perfectly wonderful!
That could have been the perfect way to end Saturday. Until then everything had been just so perfect that I didn’t necessarily wanted to go out. But sinceMarek had joined us half way through the concert and wanted to hit the dancefloor quickly, we went to Hip Hop Don’t Stop for an hour danced a bit, before finally going home. Great music, nice people, it was a wrap!
Sunday was relaxed. I had wanted to go to the flea market at Mauerpark for ages, but since I hadn’t been in town the last couple of weekends or had to work, it never worked out. The mission was to find a frame, what I found was a lamp. A nice one I must admit. After that we went to the Mauerpark Karaoke. And booooy was that fun. It’s amazing to see how big the thing got.
After that, we went for dinner at the Schwarzwaldstuben with Min and Benni and the perfect weekend was done. MORE of that please!
I should’ve stayed at home. But the problem with Friday nights is that, if I don’t have anywhere to go the next morning to deejay or work in general, I’m so hyped right after my radio show that I just want to go out. The thing with last night though is that I know I should’ve stayed in. I’ve been sort of sick’ish the last couple of days so partying wasn’t necesseraily the best thing to do. I still did it and boooooy did I have fun! We hit the Bar 1000 and Relais. Nice, nice, nice!
It was a wonderful and funny trip, full of wonderful and funny people that greeted us as if we’d known them for years. Everybody was so extremely nice, so warm and lovely that it was hard for us to leave!
This is what happened: not too long ago, my friend Phillo asked me to join him and his gang on a trip to Paris. Him, Nico and Tom we’re going to play a basketball tournament organized by the BKRW and Pain O choKolat crew. They were going to participate as the BBB team and it would be cool to go there with a bigger gang….you know: roll in there….show ‘em how we do it the Berlin way….and roll out again. I love Paris, so this was really a no-brainer. I cleared out my schedule and off we were…or not. Let me spare you the details about how crazy this trip started, but let me give you this much: i was supposed to land in Paris with the boys at 11h in the morning, I finally got there at 8h at night , traveling by myself. In the meantime I had missed a flight, spent lots of money on plane tickets and cabs, lost all nerves to the guy at the easy jet counter and waited at the airport forever! So the mission was clear: after having had the most terrible morning of the year so far, this trip had to become the most exciting trip of the year – and it did. We shot a little film that should be finished by the end of this week, early next week the latest. Untill then here are some pictures.
MERCI to all: Jay, Steph, Nyno, Yannick, Bambi, Mehdi, Nordine, Alice, Phillo, Nico, Bianca, Tom, Yiva, the kids from Pigalle and AAAAALL the lovely people we met!
I got hit on by a beautiful 21-year-old boy. He really was pretty. And quite bold. I spent half of the day trying to figure out if I should take that as a compliment or an insult….
The last weeks have been so exhausting that, as you probably have noticed, my blogging game has lacked some serious continuity. But instead of writing it all down, I decided to share some pictures!
This girl is automatic, supersonic, hypnotic, funky fresh, works your body so melodic and she goes right through your chest! Other than that she is MTV on your telly, Fritz on your radio, Juice on your newstand and now: artschool vets on your computer! Yessir!
