The Remixers
Bandulero Sound System: BSS is one of Berlin’s premier reggae/dancehall sounds, consisting of Riton, Marc Johnson, Joe Hondah and Jamaican foundation legend Don Gorgon. But their remix is something completley different: bangin’ 8-bit electro with serious bassline action. http://www.myspace.com/bandulerosoundsystem
Virgil Howe: London based musician Virgil Howe literally grew up within the music business. The son of Yes guitar player Steve Howe learned to play drums and guitar at the age of four and caught the MPC/Moog synth bug shortly after. He is best known as a member of Little Barry, The Killer Meters and The Dirty Feel. Virgil has worked with Edwyn Collins (Orange Juice) and performed with the likes of Bryan Ferry, Pet Shop Boys and Shawn Lee. On the production side of things he has produced and reworked The Nextmen, Terry Lynn, Declaime, Georgia Muldrow and Foreign Beggars. http://www.myspace.com/sparoworlds
Beatfanatic: The Stockholm producer also known as Beatconductor and Jazzconductor is one of Swedens most prolific producers of club music. Deeply rooted in the soul/funk/boogie/diggin scene his tracks always show a deep knowledge of musical history, no matter if it is an orginal production, remix, edit or mash-up. His music can be found on Soundscape, , Gamm & Raw Fusion and Spicy. http://www.myspace.com/beatfanaticsoundscape
Rory Hoy: The 22 years old british beat-prodigy and film producer (over 30 short films and a fanbase including the BBC and Guy Ritchie) Rory Hoy released his downtempo debut LP „Cosmic Child“ on Freddy Fresh’s „Howlin’“ label in 2008. Just one year later the more funk break oriented „Standing On Dust“ came out and received high praise from Craig Charles and the BBC to name a few.. He has also worked as a remixer for labels such as Skint, BigM & Pigballs Records and has won a remix competition for our favourite weirdo couple Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip. http://www.myspace.com/roryhoy
Coffee Garner: The Swiss born Berlin resident is best known for his excessive diggin’ skills and excellent knowledge of music history. But even more than that Coffee Garner has been around as a DJ for years (e.g. holding down a residency on Formentera) and also laces his own productions such as his 10 track album „Cosmic Floor“. |

This is how it all began: Back in 1983, Hashim’s „Al Naafyish“ became one the defining electro classics, causing uncounted twisted ankles and dislocated shoulders amongst b-boys round the globe. 25 years later, 2 dope boys from Berlin – Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop – pay hommage to the classic with their seminal new-funk version ( available on their album „Stamp Out Reality“ and on the double a-side 12“ „Rare Occasion“). Due to the versatile qualities of the song, MPM announced a highly satisfying remix competition. Here we go with the 5 most outstanding contributions, covering all styles from 8-bit electro and house to dusty breaks and dubby basslines.
