Nailing down Jaybo’s works to a specific artistic genre seems nearly impossible in the face of the creative impulsiveness and eager experimentation that provide the key to understanding the allure of his works. Works which meaningfully negotiate between the genres of pop art, graffiti and street art and which also unselfconsciously contain implicit elements of Dadaism and Surrealism. When he founded the streetwear label “Irie Daily” and the cultural magazine “Style” at the beginning of the 1990’s, his influence on Berlin’s youth culture and fashion scene could be clearly seen. Even today, urban subculture is the driving force behind his artistic activities.

In this exhibition, Jaybo proves once again that he is one of the most versatile, well-rounded, fascinating figures in the movement currently being defined as urban art.

Being one of the most striking creative hot spots these days, Berlin is the adopted city of street artists from all over the world. Eleven of them are now showing their artistic positions within one group exhibition. With its examination of Berlin’s urban and street art scene, BERLINER STRASSE fills a gap in the annual autumn Berliner Kunstherbst program. Between October 30 and November 15, in a space larger than 1800 square meters, contemporary street culture artists will be displaying the most current developments in an art form that is still very young. Graffiti writer and painter Daniel Tagno presents his new show at CIRCLECULTURE GALLERY: ‘High End Vandalism Breaking Into Pieces’.

Recognized as one of Berlin’s most progressive and prolific graffiti writers, Daniel Tagno has been an influential activist on the scene since the 80’s. “High End Vandalism” would be the best description for the artist’s work and action on the streets and on canvas.
